It is with great sadness that I share this news with everyone who knew my vibrant sister, Lorie Holbrook. On Monday, December 31st, Lorie passed away. Although not confirmed until we receive the toxicology reports, it appears that Lorie lost a long-term battle with her demons by taking her own life. As a family, we truly believe Lorie is now at peace. For those of you who would like to attend the funeral service, it will be held on Saturday, January 5th at Merritt Funeral Home in Brooksville, Florida, from 3-5pm. During the service, at 4:30pm, we will have a short prayer and give people the opportunity to share memories about Lorie. We encourage friends to bring and share memories and photos of Lorie. The circumstances of her death may be dark, but we would like to focus on the Lorie we all knew and loved - brilliant, beautiful, fun and always willing to help others. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation in Lorie's name to a dog rescue that she was passionate about: Heidi's Legacy Dog Rescue, 3102 Nichols Road, Lithia, Florida 33547,

A note from Rebecca Chytka-Fields Dear HHS Graduating Class of 1983,
This is Rebecca Chytka-Fields. I'm beginning to come out of my fog and think a little clearer.
Thank you Cheryl for getting the word out regarding Dan. The supportive emails and heartfelt postings on the websites gave, and continue to give me strength during this devastating time in our lives. Gradually I am fighting my way out of this cloud to find reality is still there. The pain will never go away, but I, and the girls, will begin to cope with it. I will ALWAYS be thankful to God for the 19 glorious years I spent with a wonderful husband, father... and friend. Additionally, I will focus on how very blessed I am to have 2 beautiful girls and such loving, caring, supportive friends such as those in the Graduating Class of 1983.
Many Blessings,
Rebecca

Kevin Pope's father Bill Pope passed away Apirl 20, 2009 Bill Pope, Sr.
Bill Pope Sr., was born in Uniontown, Alabama on January 06, 1935 to the late Cleveland Pope and Cora Pope Evans. He attended the public schools of Perry County in Uniontown, Alabama. At the blooming age of 17, he put on this traveling shoes in search for a place where “money grew on trees”. His search landed him here in the city of Brooksville, Florida.
In June of 1964, Bill found and married what Proverbs 18:22 describes as his “good thing”, Elder Rebecca Strother Pope. Over their 45 years of marriage, they raised several children, be it their own children, granchildren, or even their God children. Bill worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He labored for over 42 years at Florida Crushed Stone, where he was employed as an Industrial Mechanic.
On April 20, 2009, approximately 5:45 a.m. God saw fit to peacefully call Bill to his heavenly home where his mansion was prepared for him. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Cora Pope Evans; his devoted sister, Deaconess Annie Bell Brown, and youngest nephew, Willie Jerome Brown.
He leaves to treasure his memory: the queen of his palace, Elder Rebecca Strother Pope; four sons: Willie James Strother (Wendy); Bill “Lil Bill” Pope Jr. (Sharon); Shawn “G”. Wayne Pope (Lashawn) all of Brooksville, Florida and Kevin “Daddy Bo” Devon Pope (Hope) of Kissimmee, Florida; Two daughters: Barbara Jean Davis (Tony) of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Elizabeth “Liz” Arre (Frank) of Woodbridge, Virginia; Twenty-two grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He will additionally be cherished by his brother-in-law, Willie Brown Jr. and the children of his only sister: Cleveland Pope, Sr.; Richard Marcus and Cynthia “Cissye” Brown Jackson, all of Brooksville, Florida. He will be remembered by his three sister-in-laws; Mary Strother Brown; Mariah Frazier (Richard); and Loella Strother, as well as his brother-in-law, Mitchell Strother (Patricia). He will be also missed by his extended Lee family (of Brooksville, Florida and Fort Wayne, Indiana), Strother family and Jones descendents as well as a host of nieces, nephews, God-children, relatives and friends.

Hugs to Becca Oh my sweet little friend from so many years ago... how terribly sad I am to read this news. I am truly sorry you have to deal with this loss so early in your family's earthly life together. I was very pleased to read Leslie's note about how you have such a strong support system with you there now. I have fond memories of times spent with you beginning in elementary school, and then again later when your family always made me feel so welcome in your home while I was dating Darren. I will keep you and your little girls close in my prayers. Blesssings to all your family and friends as well, for their loss and during their travels to see you.

This is Rebecca's sister, Leslie. Just a note... Hi Cheryl, this is Rebecca's sister, Leslie. There are six of us so you may ending up hearing from all of us on Rebecca's behalf before all is said and done.
Rebecca is doing surprisingly well, which is not to say she is not utterly devastated. We all know that he meant everything to she and the girls, so she is having a really tough time accepting that he is really gone. The wake/funeral is tomorrow night and I know she is dreading it as she has said it all still does not seem real...and if the wake/funeral doesn't happen then it won't have to be real.
Our parents, Dan's mother, step-father and brother, all but one of our siblings, Dan's closest friend since age eight, and one of his other longtime "best buds" are here now so everyone is just surrounding she and the girls with as much love, support and comfort as we can. There has been alot of laughter remembering all of Dan's craziness and zest for life, and I rather expect that to be the central theme at the service tomorrow.
I'd be remiss not to mention the incredible outpouring of love, sympathy, support and "take charge" action of her neighborhood family. I have met the majority of folks during my few visits here so knew that the community was very tight knit. But they have gone above and beyond in their support for Becca and the girls...all of them saying they know that Dan and/or Rebecca would do the same for them without hesitation.
I hope you are able to make the service as I'm sure it will be just the type of gathering that Dan would really love.
Thanks so much, Leslie
